Barbara de Jong

After studying psychology at Leiden University, Barbara de Jong (1954) worked as management team member and coordinator of the Beroepskwalificerende Educatie (Vocational Education) (BKE) project. In 1986 she switched to congress organisation when she joined the HBO Council (Higher Education Council) and was involved with the content and logistics organisation of an international congress in the Amsterdam RAI. It very soon became apparent that she had found her niche.

In 1987 – after the successful HBO Council congress – she joined the former Organisatie Bureau Amsterdam (the RAI’s congress bureau) as a congress organiser. Two years later she was appointed the manager of this congress bureau, a position she held until 1993 when, in connection with her husband’s job, she moved to Moscow for several years.

Back in the Netherlands she was very soon back working in the congress industry and this led to the establishment of NewBrooklyn in 2003.
